While our award-winning criminal justice program focuses primarily on the theoretical foundation of serving and protecting the communities within which our graduates work, our online Homeland Security program is far more practical in nature, equipping you with the knowledge and tools you’ll need to be effective in the field from day one on the job.

Ashland University’s Homeland Security program is designed for those who want to work on the front lines helping people, often in their most critical time of need. This program is designed for students who aren’t averse to confronting a disaster directly and on its own terms, and who want to be involved with emergencies as they happen and in situations where creature comforts may not necessarily be near the top of the priorities list.

Whether you’ve always dreamed of working in counter intelligence for the FBI or want to take the knowledge and expertise you’ve gained in the workforce and apply it to a new career path with FEMA or in corporate security, this program will give you the tools required to succeed as you serve others behind the scenes and in hands-on contexts.

About the Homeland Security Program

Through individualized attention, flexible online learning options and access to the kind and quality of opportunities you can only find at Ashland University, students in the Homeland Security program will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work within the four primary security factor contexts: border, transportation, environmental and infrastructure. No matter which career path you pursue after graduation, Ashland’s program prepares you for success by teaching you how to fulfill roles within various Homeland Security sectors including:

  • National Incident Management System
  • Incident Command System
  • Emergency Management
  • Intelligence Operations

We offer both bachelor’s and associate’s degrees through this online program. The associate degree requires 12 hours of core Homeland Security courses with 12 additional hours of electives within the program. Along with the core bachelor’s requirements, a bachelor of science degree in Homeland Security can be met through 60 hours of core coursework. 

Graduates of our Homeland Security program may go on to positions with:
